Key takeaways

  • CIDB says registration is "mandatory for all contractors whether local or foreign" before construction work in Malaysia, under Section 25 of Act 520.
  • Grade sets the ceiling on project value, from G1 at RM200,000 to G7 with "No limit", and the registration category sets the kind of work a contractor may take at all.
  • You can check any supplier yourself: CIDB's public contractor search held 136,996 records when read in October 2026, searchable by company name or registration number.
  • A light-gauge steel roof truss has its own CIDB quality-assurance standard, CIS 12:2009, and the factory that makes it has its own registration route.
  • A steel warranty is a document, not a number: BlueScope's TRUECORE® and Blue ZACS® pages both close with "Warranty terms and conditions apply".

How do you choose a roof truss supplier in Malaysia?

Run the five checks below in order, and stop at the first one a supplier fails. Registration before capability, capability before paperwork, paperwork before track record, and track record before price. A supplier that clears all five can be compared on cost; one that clears three cannot be compared at all, because the quotations are not describing the same thing.

  1. Registration. CIDB-registered, in a grade and category that covers your job?
  2. The product. Truss system made against a published standard, in a registered factory?
  3. The steel. Brand, coating and warranty named in writing?
  4. The record. Completed work of comparable span, building type and location?
  5. The scope. Supply only, or supply and install, said plainly?

Ducero is a roofing and steel structures company in Malaysia — metal deck, cladding and light-gauge steel roof trusses — based at Lot 2116, Jalan Nuri, Telok Panglima Garang in Selangor. Send the roof plan and a section to the enquiry form or call +603-3123 1348; the package is quoted from your drawings. The roofing page sets out the scope, and how to choose a steel roof truss system covers the technical selection this guide leaves aside.

Is the supplier registered to do your job?

CIDB registration is mandatory before any construction work in Malaysia, but the certificate alone is not the answer. The grade caps the value of work the contractor may undertake, and the category caps the kind of work it may carry out at all. Both have to cover your project, and both are printed on the certificate.

CIDB puts both limits plainly on its registration page: a registered contractor "cannot undertake to build any construction project that exceeds the value of the construction work" its grade allows, and "cannot carry out any construction project outside his registration category". CIDB's registration FAQ, read in October 2026, sets out the grade ladder.

GradeMost the contractor may undertake
G1Not more than RM200,000
G2Not more than RM500,000
G3Not more than RM1 million
G4Not more than RM3 million
G5Not more than RM5 million
G6Not more than RM10 million
G7No limit

Does it hold the government-works certificate?

One distinction matters before a government job. The same FAQ shows CIDB issuing the general registration certificate (PPK) separately from the government-works certificate (SPKK), so a supplier holding the first does not automatically hold the second. None of this has to be taken on trust: CIDB's public contractor directory held 136,996 records when read in October 2026, and filters by grade, category, specialisation and state.

Ducero Sdn Bhd is a CIDB-registered contractor, Grade G5 in categories B, CE and ME, on a certificate valid to 18 June 2028.

What standard is the truss system made against?

CIDB publishes a quality-assurance standard for the product itself: CIS 12:2009, "Quality Assurance For Prefabricated Light Weight Steel Roof Truss". A factory-made truss is a manufactured component as well as a construction work, which is why the company that makes it has a registration route of its own, separate from its contractor registration.

That route is CIDB's IBS Manufacturer & Product Registration Programme, which CIDB describes as "a scheme to assess and certify IBS manufacturers, distributors, suppliers and agents of IBS products". CIDB publishes the result as a "List of IBS Manufacturers that have undergone the IBS Manufacturer & Product Assessment & Certification (IMPACT) process", one file per category, so a buyer can check whether a supplier appears on the metal framing list — though the published files are dated October 2022, so ask the supplier for its current status too.

A steel roof truss sits in Metal Framing System: CIDB's public-comment draft of CIS 24 defines that category as "a prefabricated construction system with a combination of metal structural elements such as beams, columns, walls, slabs, tie rods, and roof trusses fitted together using connectors to support loads".

Ducero's current ISO 9001:2015 certificates, from Bureau Veritas and valid to 17 January 2027, cover the design, supply and installation of steel roof trusses.

Which steel is in the truss, and what proves it?

Ask for the steel brand, the coating and the warranty document in writing. A coated steel product carries conditions rather than a blanket promise: BlueScope's own pages for TRUECORE® and Blue ZACS® each close the warranty line with "Warranty terms and conditions apply", which is the difference between a figure in a quotation and a warranty you can rely on.

BlueScope describes TRUECORE® as "a zinc/aluminium alloy coated steel with a distinctive blue resin surface finish", made "specifically for the house framing market", and Blue ZACS® as a roofing and walling product whose "Aluminium-Zinc alloy coating provides superior corrosion resistance". A supplier quoting "50-year warranty" as a line item tells you less than one handing you the warranty sheet.

The steel maker's warranty covers the material, not the workmanship of the crew that erects the roof. Ask who warrants the installation, for how long, and whether the installer carries public liability insurance.

Superspan, Ducero's sister company, supplies light-gauge steel profiles and publishes that it uses BlueScope TRUECORE® and Blue ZACS® steel. Apply the same test here as anywhere else: ask for the warranty document with the quotation. Steel against timber covers why the coating question does not arise in the same form for a timber truss.

Can the supplier show work like yours?

A project list is worth more than a brochure, and worth most when it is long enough to show a pattern. As published in the project archive, the group's record runs to 479 entries dated 2011 to 2025: 465 lines name light-gauge steel trusses and 11 name mild-steel trusses, nine of those on the same line as a light-gauge one. Ducero's own roofing entries are the 94 dated 2021 to 2025; the earlier 385 are listed under its sister company Superspan.

The match matters more than the total. Look for a completed job of comparable span and roof form, a comparable building type, one in your own state, then ask to speak to that client. The group's archive carries public-sector work alongside housing: a JKR fire and rescue station at Sungai Lembing in 2023, and a 262-unit entry for Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia at Serdang in 2019.

Supply only, or supply and install?

Whether a roof truss quotation is supply only or supply and install is the line that decides what the prices in front of you actually compare. Ducero covers any design, supply and install solution the structure needs, so say which parts you want priced and ask each supplier to quote the same ones.

Before accepting any quotation, pin down eight things in writing.

  1. Whether erection and bracing are included, or left to your own contractor.
  2. Who handles delivery and offloading at site.
  3. Which drawings the quotation was priced from.
  4. What the price covers if the architect changes the roof form afterwards.
  5. What the design was priced against: span, roof covering, ceiling type, wind exposure, and any future solar array or tank.
  6. Who designs the truss layout, and, if your submission needs endorsed drawings, who the submitting person is.
  7. Whether that endorsement is included in the price or billed separately.
  8. The fabrication and delivery lead time, in weeks, from approved drawings.

The drawings named in the quotation are the contract. Light-gauge steel against mild-steel frames explains which structure the building needs before this is priced.

Frequently asked questions

Does Ducero supply roof trusses outside Selangor?

Yes. The archive's locations were parsed on 2 September 2026, covering 472 of those entries: 364 in Selangor, 43 in Kuala Lumpur, 17 in Negeri Sembilan and 16 in Johor; the remaining 28 in Putrajaya, Pahang, Melaka, Perak, Pulau Pinang, Terengganu and Kelantan, with four entries stating no location.

Does a certificate on a supplier's website prove it is current?

No. CIDB registration, ISO 9001 certification and IBS status all run in fixed cycles with an expiry date, so a scan published on a website may belong to an earlier cycle. Ask for the current certificate and read the expiry date on it rather than the logo beside it.

Who is Ducero, and which companies is it related to?

Ducero Sdn Bhd (registration 200401011533) supplies light gauge steel roof trusses and total roofing solutions. Its sister companies are Superspan Sdn Bhd, which supplies light gauge steel profiles, and Sunrise Prima Sdn Bhd, which makes solar mounting structures. The group behind the three was founded in 1996.

What does Ducero need in order to quote?

The roof plan and a section are enough to start. A truss package is quoted from your drawings, so the more complete the drawings, the firmer the quotation; no price per unit, per square metre or per tonne is published, because the quantity of truss work depends on the roof you are building.
